***WARNING*** The Seventh Seal is the J. Thorn version of Sons of Anarchy meets Die Hard with a radical Christian as the bad guy. It is a fast-paced, dark fantasy thriller full of violence, intended for mature audiences only. In addition, please do not purchase The Seventh Seal if you are a religious person and find a story with violence committed by members of the Catholic Church offensive. The Seventh Seal requires the same suspension of belief as a zombie apocalypse tale or a story about sparkly vampires.

Praise for The Seventh Seal...
"I think folks who enjoy apocalyptic fiction will like this story. It's intense, it's not pretty, and it was a good story. Definitely check it out."
K. Sozaeva, Vine Voice, Top 500 Reviewer

"What if the morning after was also the End of the World? That's what happens to J. Thorn's protagonist in this edgy take on the End of Days. What emerges is an edge-of-your seat apocalyptic adventure full of twists and turns. I couldn't put it down! This is an edgy book, however, and not without controversy. If you don't like your religion or your world view to be challenged, then proceed with caution!"
Vicki Keire, Author of Worlds Burn Through

"It makes you gasp at every turn...J. Thorn does an amazing job of flipping every preconception on its head!"
Jack D. Albrecht Jr., Author of Osric's Wand

Overview

John Burgoyne awakens from a Halloween party, with a hangover and a dead cell phone, on the first day of the End of Days. He's desperate, on the run, and fighting for his life. After a violent coup, the Father, the figurehead of the Holy Covenant and the commander of a new military order, pursues John through the post-apocalyptic wreckage of Cleveland, Ohio, in search of the hidden knowledge he believes John holds. Burgoyne escapes and aligns with the resistance until Father orchestrates a final showdown.

More praise for The Seventh Seal...
"The Seventh Seal will not appeal to the thin skinned, or religious as it has a different take on the religious and religion. Pretty fast paced gritty too, Enjoyed it."
Lew, reviewer

"A fast-paced thriller that feels like Hell on Earth."
Mark Andrew Edwards

"A quick read that serves to warn of the danger of run away religious fervor wrapped in a 'end of the world' romp through a dangerous futurescape..."

' NO SPOILERS in my review, feel safe reading it '
While this type of Book isn't my normal read, I can understand why so many people didn't like it, but true to form of going against the grain, I actually did. Perhaps it's because of my eclectic taste in everything from books, movies, and even the music I listen to. I can usually be found reading anything and everything from Extreme Horror, Paranormal, Thrillers, Fantasy, and even the occasional Mystery book (and many that are combinations of those genres). That square peg person living in a round hole world. But enough about me....

The Seventh Seal was a bit heavy with religious fanaticism, sort of like the Left Behind Series married Die Hard and birthed out this book. While some complain about the details of vehicles or guns, I've always been the type of person who didn't care it wasn't a real MIG in Top Gun, so the details don't bother me as long as there's a back story to the exotic weaponry, like the BFG in Doom. This book wasn't written for the History channel after all.

The storyline flowed at a decent pace, the characters well developed with enough detail for you to either like or dislike them. No noticeable typos or errors in sentence structure. I even enjoyed the small tie in which referenced an event from J. Thorn's Portal Arcane series, something only a true fan would have picked up on. I would definitely recommend this book to those few friends of mine who also like something other than the norm once in a while. Five Stars because of the nod and unexpected twist at the end.

The Seventh Seal J Thorn Kate Sterling 9781469990903 Books Reviews

I purchased this book way back in March 2013. I had read a few books by Mr. Thorn and had thought this one sounded good. After I purchased it, I read through some of the reviews and thought…why hadn’t I read them before I bought it?! They read that it was full of typos, inconsistencies, etc. I wasn’t in the mood for a poorly written book and never opened it on my . I have read quite a few books by Mr. Thorn since then and am on his mailing list to receive news about upcoming books etc. I received one the other day saying that “The Seventh Seal” had been re-edited so I thought…OK…let’s give it a try. Well…I am so happy that I did!!! I read through this book in a day and a half because I couldn’t put it down! This is an apocalyptic story with such a different cause for the world’s falling! I LOVED the religious aspects brought in and could see this happening. With a lot of twists and turns in this story, I would think I knew what was coming next only to be surprised by Mr. Thorn way of turning things in another direction! The characters were well described as was the action which there was plenty of. I loved some of the characters and hated others…the ones who you want to reach inside the book and just slap! I am so glad I received that email and decided to give this book a try because I can’t tell you enough how good it is and how well it was re-edited! If you have seen the previous reviews as I have and are afraid of giving this book a try, don’t be. I can’t recommend it enough as a very good story that will keep you reading until that last page is turned! I am now going to go and download the second book in this series which I didn’t know about until I finished The Seventh Seal and can’t wait to see where J. Thorn takes us on this apocalyptic journey!
Gripping and swift paced story. If your a fan of "The Walking Dead", then this is really going to give you a buzz. The foilables of John the main character and the loyalty threads in his story, his wife's Jana and John's new friend Alex, all make for great background to the destruction of the current known era.

All things considered I didn't want it to end. I felt it could go for longer to establish a final destination a refuge of sorts. I know that would not have been the end of John and his story.

For reading ages IMHO those of you that are younger than mid-teen, I don't recommend reading it. Too graphic and for the adult situations.
"The Seventh Seal" by J. Thorn is a dark, apocalyptic story full of evil bad guys, outnumbered good guys, and a total destruction of modern society. And it’s dark. Dark. Did I say it was dark? It’s really dark.

While attending a Halloween party, this guy John gets drugged and locked in the basement by his vindictive ex-girlfriend. When he wakes up the next day, the electricity is turned off, no radio stations are broadcasting, and everyone is dead except Alex, the guy that releases John from the basement. Makes you wish there were zombies. (There are no zombies.) Alex is able to explain what happened, having witnessed his family being slaughtered in front of him (I said it was dark), but not why it happened. John and Alex start their journey across this apocalyptic landscape to find John’s wife, who may still be alive. They meet a motorcycle gang, other refugees, and finally the perpetrators of this catastrophe, who have a special interest in John.

It’s not much of a spoiler to say that the bad guys in this story are religious fanatics from the Catholic Church. The author has taken a rather unique approach to casting his villains, and boy are they villainous. All I can say about that is I hope that J. Thorn makes enough income from his writing to pay for all the years of deep psychological counseling and therapy that he so obviously needs.

But the author’s demons feed the fans of dystopian landscapes. We’ve come for the gore, despair, and casual violence that that turn our cultural suburban wasteland into a wasteland of another kind.

This is urban fantasy that paints a coherent picture of the world the author has constructed. The story hangs together, and events unfold in a plausible way in this new society. The story is fast-paced, and holds the reader's interest throughout. I wanted to keep reading it, I did not want to put it down, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series, "Man’s Ruin".
